nr: 162 /  1927 Stutz AA Vertical Eight

Harry C. Stutz was the founder, and lead his company from 1911 till 1918. The company was, together with Mercer, America's first producer of sports cars. After his departure, the Stutz Motor car Company struggled with the problems of a playboy image, partially due to which the sales dropped. After owner Charles Schwab, in 1925, stated hiring top people from competitor Marmon, the second succesful era began, with the Stutz Vertical Eight, with an engine with an overhead camshaft. The last Stutz's cars were doomed to go down. The performace of the DV32 was miraculous, both in the field of road holdind a speed. Launched in 1931 with a 8 cyl engined, reamed to 5.3L, with each cyl containing 4 valves (hence V32), and 2 overhead camshafts, the Stutz DV32 signified, more than any other sportscar, the combination of American and European expertise in the field of design. Perfectionisme, however, can lead to unsellablilty, resulting in Stutz no longer building passenger cars after 1934. New price in 1927 $3.160,-
