nr: 24 / 1978 Audi 80GLS Oldtimer
The Audi 80 is a mid-sized car that was produced until 1996 by the German car manufacturer Audi. The 80 was available in two models, a sedan and a station wagon (Avant). A coupé and a convertible were also available on the basis of the 80.
The second generation 80 came in model year 1979 (late 1978). This car was a size bigger than the first generation, the base engine changed from a 1.3 to a 1.6 to keep the performance the same. The second generation 80 is recognizable by its plastic bumpers, the first generation had chrome bumpers. For model year 1981, a sporty two-door coupé was introduced on the basis of the 80, the Coupé GT. Up to the B-pillar, this car was the same as the two-door 80, but equipped with a two-liter five-cylinder engine. Due to the increased torsional rigidity, the coupé was not delivered as a three-door. Later there were also four-cylinder versions of the coupé and the four-wheel drive quattro with 200 hp turbo engine. The 80 sedan was delivered in America and Canada as 4000, the coupé was also simply called 'Coupé' there. The 80 was also available in 1983 with a quattro drive and a five-cylinder engine. The second generation 80 also had a Volkswagen Passat counterpart.
Before the second generation 80 went out of production, this model had a facelift. The chromed hubcaps with rings have been replaced by plastic hubcaps, the bumpers became more robust, the sides were fitted with a plastic bumper at the height of the bumpers, a small spoiler was placed at the front, and the rear got larger taillights. Certainly not unimportant; It was this model B2 that was the first to have a fully galvanized body. This was later implemented on the B3.
